Heritage's Ministry to the Youth

The Purpose of Proclaim Youth

Bringing the Word!

Proclaim: to announce; to declare plainly, openly, or aloud.

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” (Colossians 1:28)

Proclaim Youth Group is a ministry designed to spiritually edify young adults ages 12 to 18 through the expository teaching of God’s Word. The Youth are taught that the Gospel and the Word of God can and should be brought to bear in every area of life. The youth meet on Friday night at 6:00 at the Ferreri home.

Why Proclaim?  Jesus!  Nothing in life is more important than knowing God in a saving way.  Romans 10:13 says that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  The rest of the passage goes on to say, How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?(verse 14) God’s way of sharing the good news of Jesus is proclaiming the truths of Jesus.  This is the central focus of our ministry.  We long to know God through the work and person of the Son, Jesus, and we desire that the Youth of Heritage and beyond will too.

Why Proclaim? Growth in the Word of God!  How does one become “mature in Christ,” as Colossians 1:28 says?  First, by knowing Him savingly. And then, by hearing and applying the Word of God to one’s life in a skillful way.  One of the goals of Proclaim Youth Ministry is to encourage the youth to do just this.  This includes teaching through specific books of the Bible, as well as doctrinal and worldview studies.

A goal of Proclaim Youth Ministry is growth in the grace and knowledge of Christ. This includes coming alongside parents to instill a love for God’s Word among the youth so that they might regularly spend time reading and meditating on Scripture and applying scripture to their lives in order that they might be transformed internally, as well as leading by example and teaching in communicating with God through prayer.
